3 Homemade Deodorant Recipes
Soothing, yet effective, this natural homemade deodorant stick works without baking soda nor coconut oil, and uses zinc to help combat odors for those with sensitive skin. I also make homemade fabric softener — recipe courtesy of Suzanne @ At Home with the Farmer`s Wife. I started making my own homemade deodorant and it`s easy, safe and quick and best of all, I know exactly what`s in it. I have never been able to tolerate regular deodorant and have to constantly switch about every month. Because of that we travel with the crystal deodorants in the summer but will see how the 92 degree coconut oil works.
Simply sweep a small amount of organic coconut oil on top of makeup and leave it alone. I buy my coconut oil by the gallon from them and love it. I also got the arrowroot and essential oils from them as well. You will get a deodorant powder that is just as effective in the end but a little more friendly for those with a corn sensitivity. One reader suggested using zinc oxide and I highly recommend substituting this in place of the baking soda.
I like the sound of the coconut oil, cornstarch and baking soda but I think I`ll go light on the baking soda. I can`t go back to a plastic container with a chemical solid, and I don`t want a chemical spray. It feels so great to know that I`ve stopped putting all those nasty chemicals and toxins on my body and am now using only homemade products with natural ingredients. I`m going to take this as a base recipe, because the consistency is so great and add some French clay and/or arrowroot powder, just to experiment. I was wondering (to all whom may answer), how I could create a deodorant for heavy-sweaters. Even one drop of peppermint essential oil in 16 ounces of water is far too much to drink. Unlike conventional cleaners, homemade cleaning products don`t smell like much.
Then I tried switching to those natural deodorant brands, but — like we all found out, one way or another — they never quite worked. The deodorant definitely should solidify and the oils should remain in the mixture. If I ditched the baking soda and just used coconut oil, whose antibacterial properties are supposed to work as a deodorant alone, it was if I hadn`t applied anything at all. I have tried a few deodorants from the Natural Health stores and also a DIY deodorant sold at a local wellness shop. Wow this crystal deodorant lasts a long time, that is a great way to save money.
We`ll round up 3 cents to account for the cost of the baking soda and essential oils and call it $2/tube. Even though we`re not supposed to, I used refined coconut oil because it`s cheaper and I didn`t want the smell of coconut- it`s not my favorite smell and I was afraid people might think I was wearing coconut perfume. Looking forward to making it, deodorant is the last product I have to make before each toiletry is handmade
